The driver skidded13 injured in crash on A3
On the A3, a 55-year-old man left the road and crashed his car into a tractor-trailer. Six more vehicles then drove to the crash site. The result: dozens of people were injured.
In a serious accident involving a total of eight vehicles on Autobahn 3 near Wiesbaden-Medenbach, 13 people were injured, three of them seriously. Based on preliminary findings, police announced that a 55-year-old driver skidded in his car in the left lane for unknown reasons. The vehicle turned into the right lane in front of the tractor-trailer traveling there. He braked hard but was unable to prevent the 55-year-old man from crashing into the car.
A total of six other vehicles then drove to the crash site – a tractor-trailer and five cars. Three people suffered serious injuries and ten others had minor injuries. Cars and trucks blocked the entire southbound lane of the A3 and the motorway had to be completely closed at the crash site. According to police, an accident investigation is initially underway, and an expert is also involved. In the afternoon, the hard shoulder of the road was opened to allow drivers to pass the crash site.
How the accident occurred remains to be determined. Ten kilometers of traffic jams occurred at the crash site and, according to police, the roads in the area were also very congested. Witnesses to the accident were asked to report to the Wiesbaden motorway police.
