In a serious accident involving a total of eight vehicles on Autobahn 3 near Wiesbaden-Medenbach, 13 people were injured, three of them seriously. Based on preliminary findings, police announced that a 55-year-old driver skidded in his car in the left lane for unknown reasons. The vehicle turned into the right lane in front of the tractor-trailer traveling there. He braked hard but was unable to prevent the 55-year-old man from crashing into the car.
A total of six other vehicles – one tractor-trailer and five cars – then drove to the crash site. Three people suffered serious injuries and ten others had minor injuries. Cars and trucks blocked the entire southbound lane of the A3, requiring the motorway to be completely closed at the crash site.
According to police, an accident investigation is initially underway, and an expert is also involved. How the accident occurred remains to be determined. A pile up ten kilometers long formed at the crash site and, according to police, the roads in the area were also very congested. Witnesses to the accident were asked to report to the Wiesbaden motorway police.
