A museum center especially in the former Bourbon prison in Avelino. Smart lighting interventions, internet connectivity and advanced information systems for “smart” centers in the province. And again, the security of the Irpinia stage of the “Guglielmo Road”, a project promoted by the Municipality of Chiusano and Ospedaletto to pay tribute to the pilgrim Guglielmo who in the thirteenth century traveled the rock and mountain paths between Campania, Basilicata and Puglia, founding the monasteries of Montevergine and Goleto in Irpinia.
And finally, valorization of historic railway sections Avellino-Rocchetta Sant’Antonio with the rebuilding of the capital’s station. All this is contained in the pilot project of the Province of Avellino that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has included among the five poles of “Roots Tourism”, a 200 million plan (70% in the South, equivalent to 140 million) that invests in the internal region in terms of enhancing traditions but also modern tourist attraction and innovation, the first plan for the Farnesina financed with Cohesion resources. An important innovation, the latter, because it strengthens the role of the ministry also in terms of attention to Italian companies, which is clearly envisaged by the organizational reform of the ministry that will come into force next year.
Southern Italy, Luigi Sbarra: «Enough with the stereotypes, the South has been developing for three years»
SECURITY
The promoter himself, Minister Antonio Tajani, will talk about it next Friday in the Prefecture of Avellino, together with the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi who supports and encourages the possibility of the project, including 20 million in the 90 million budget to strengthen the region’s security measures. However, the actual novelty is also something else and is related to the timing and more generally the process of implementing various interventions: «The entire initial stage, that is, the stage that often slows down the start or project completion, has been determined: that is, all operational steps have been prepared through pre-investigation which will allow us to avoid delays and unknowns, providing concrete certainty regarding the Cipess resolution that has been passed. In addition, Minister Tajani wants a special control room to monitor the entire stages of the Avelino pilot project”, says Carmine De Angelis, the minister’s legal advisor who together with Beppe Incocciati, the former Napoli footballer who is now also Tajani’s advisor, had a central role in the entire initial phase. It is not a coincidence that the first interventions that will start in 2026 are those planned for the Avellino station (13 million) and for the safety of the Camino di Guglielmo. But the timetable is quite clear: in the year 2030 all available resources must have been spent, respecting the expected annual deadline (not surprisingly, the same maximum limit is also estimated for national Cohesion resources).
INTERNAL REGION
In short, this is the concrete approach proposed by “Tourism of the future” than in the South this also involves the region of Brindisi (and which entrusts much of its credibility to the sport). A method that starts from listening to the needs of the region, indicated by the Province of Avellino (which will be the implementing body), and aims at equally pragmatic goals: promoting and encouraging return tourism of Italians abroad and their descendants as well as strengthening ties with Italy and one’s origins; attracting foreign tourists to lesser known destinations despite their rich history, culture and nature; enhancing and supporting underdeveloped areas of the country that are rich in artistic and natural beauty, bridging socio-economic gaps. And furthermore, «to encourage economic development in a sustainable and environmentally friendly perspective and to promote social, economic and territorial cohesion in the relevant regions».
