This Tuesday, November 11 2025 will commemorate, like every November 11, the armistice and the end of the First World War. More than 100 years later, this historic day has become a public holiday and for some people a holiday. Consequence? Public administrations, shops and other infrastructure experienced disruption to opening hours. Le Parisien takes stock.
In transportation
In Île-de-France, don’t worry about transportation. Transilien, RER and metro will run normally — apart from the expected disruptions on November 11, especially in connection with the planned celebrations around the Champs-Élysées, in Paris. Buses also operate this Tuesday. However, transportation frequency will be reduced closer to weekend frequency.
The same thing happens in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) where transport will run like a weekend… or almost. The authority, RTM, indicated on its website that it had strengthened lines serving shopping centers that remained open despite the holidays. In Bordeaux (Gironde), trams and buses will operate as on Sunday. Just like in Lyon (Rhône), transport frequencies will also be reduced.
However, it is worth remembering that traffic jams can occur this Tuesday on French roads, especially in the South East, with some people taking advantage of this public holiday and the bridges it offers to enjoy the long weekend. “In the direction of return, the axis of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region will have high demand, such as the A7, A43 and A47 motorways,” predicts Bison futé.
Don’t worry about the national rail network: trains with tickets already sold will run fine.
In shops
In contrast to May 1, where exceptions are rare, opening on November 11 is almost universal. The law does not provide for salary increases for those who work on that day. This explains why most shops and shopping centers remain open even on holidays. However, opening hours may vary, with doors opening later or closing earlier. Find out online or by phone before traveling.
What about restaurants?
Same thing for restaurants. Most will open this Tuesday, November 11. Contact us to confirm.
Cultural place
Case by case is also necessary for museums. In Paris, everything will be open… except for those under construction (the Zadkine Museum, the Museum of Romantic Life, or the Catacombs). Access to the Petit Palais will be complicated in the morning due to warnings planned nearby. Elsewhere in France, it’s the same: everything will open this Tuesday, November 11, with a few exceptions… so you should check before you travel.
Cinemas will open everywhere in France, with possible exceptions.
The library will be closed. This will happen anywhere in France, such as Paris, Lyon, Marseille and Bordeaux.
Administration
Sub-district and administrative services are generally closed on Tuesday, November 11 2025.
Most banks will also be closed on this holiday.
Gym and swimming pool
In theory, sports can be done on November 11. At least for those who go to the gym. But keep in mind that times may vary. For example, this happens at Basic Fit, where the rooms will be open from 09.00 to 16.00, except for those located in shopping centers which are closed. In general, a visit to your sports club’s Internet page or a phone call will allow you to check whether the club is open or not.
As for swimming pools, “most” will open this Tuesday, November 11 in Paris. And, good news for swimmers, schools are closed, slots intended for school children are eliminated. Results ? The opening is wider, generally extending throughout the day. But be careful, the pool may open its lanes later than usual, in the morning. But what happened in Paris is not necessarily true everywhere, several cities have announced that their swimming pools will be closed this Tuesday. Here too, it is therefore advisable to find out before traveling.
