Naples, new state of the art Metro station: Monte Sant’Angelo inaugurated

The new station of the Naples Art Metro is already operational: it is the Monte Sant’Angelo station built by Webuild on the new Line 7.

This new opening will allow the passage of the first trains on Line 7, in the section between the stops Monte Sant’Angelo and Soccavo, where an interconnection with Circumflegrea is also planned. Thus, a fundamentally new part of the Neapolitan public transport system can become operational, guaranteeing further opportunities for sustainable mobility thanks to interconnection with the existing metropolitan network. In particular, for those coming from Monte Sant’Angelo, it is now possible to exchange the Montesanto node with Circumflegrea and Cumana, which connect the city center with the Phlegraean area, and with the cable car that reaches the Vomero district. Also in Montesanto, further interconnections are possible with Line 2 and with the nearest central stops namely Piazza Dante and Toledo on Line 1, offering an alternative to private transport in areas with high population density.

Created by Webuild on behalf of EAV (Ente Autonomo Volturno), the implementing agency of the Campania Region, Monte Sant’Angelo is one of Naples’ “Art Stations” housing two monumental installations by internationally renowned artist Anish Kapoor placed at two entrances, one serving the campus of the University of Naples Federico II and the other in the Rione Traiano district. Both works are mouth-shaped cyclopean sculptures that envelop visitors, accompanying them into the interior and turning the station entrance into an immersive journey reminiscent of a descent into the Underworld. Even the internal environment, which develops underground on one level that slopes downwards, is reminiscent of a cave nest thanks to the natural rock effect of the transit tunnel lining. Distinctive inclined escalators and elevators inspired by the city’s cable cars provide access to the platforms.

Monte Sant’Angelo is the first of four new stations planned on Line 7, which will stretch for more than 4.5 km, almost entirely underground, with the final connection to Mostra station providing junctions with Cumana, with Line 6 and with the nearby Campi Flegrei stop on Line 2. On Line 7 Webuild is also working on the construction of the Parco San Paolo station, whose work has already exceeded 50% of the overall progress and is already the first of two underground levels. of the five plans have been completed. For the third level, the associated attic is being completed, while in recent days excavation activities for a new tunnel connecting to the future Terracina stop have also begun.

In Naples Webuild is also currently involved in the construction of the Capodichino station on Line 1 which will allow the three main city mobility centers to be directly connected – the port, airport and rail network, including high speed – and in the doubling of Cumana, connecting Naples to Pozzuoli, on a stretch of about 5 km between Dazio and Cantieri stations.
