In an effort to combat undeclared work, the federal government is targeting food delivery services. Apart from barbershops and cosmetic studios, stricter rules will also be applied to them in the future.
According to media reports, the government coalition consisting of the Union and the SPD is tightening its draft law to combat undeclared work. According to a Rheinische Post report, after barbershops and cosmetics studios, food delivery services should also be included in the catalog of sectors most affected by undeclared jobs.
This is regulated in amendments to the draft law passed by the Union and the SPD. According to reports, the project will be endorsed by the Bundestag on Thursday.
According to the newspaper report, what is specifically meant is “platform-based delivery services” that arrange deliveries by other parties, “as well as subcontractors who carry out related deliveries for platform operators.”
Violations result in fines
Based on the inclusion in the catalog, in the future workers are required to bring and show identity documents, and employers are required to report immediately. Violations can result in heavy fines.
The EU Rapporteur on the Finance Committee, Anja Karliczek (CDU), said that the start of delivery services in the processed food sector would also make an “effective contribution to the fight against undeclared work”. Overall, through the bill, the coalition protects “our small and medium-sized businesses from illegal dumping competition.”
