Certain medications used to treat depression (antidepressants) can increase blood sugar and cause significant weight gain. Because of this aspect, people who have a higher risk of developing diabetes due to their genetic makeup or who suffer from diabetes and depression should not be prescribed tricyclic antidepressants, or TCAs for short, but rather antidepressants from the group of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs for short.
How important is a diabetes training course?
In my opinion, training is very necessary: Here, diabetics are shown, among other things, how to use measuring instruments correctly, evaluate glucose values, use medicines and injections, as well as how to behave correctly in an emergency with low or high blood sugar levels. Most importantly, participants learn how to deal well with illness and stress and related problems.
This restores security as well as a sense of control and self-determination. This is very important not only when dealing with the disease itself, but also in relation to the psychological situation.
Thank You for conversation, Professor Kulzer.
