A lawyers’ association accuses the College of Madrid of appearing as a prosecutor in the trial against the Attorney General
On Tuesday, the Free Association of Lawyers released a letter in which it denounces the “lack of neutrality” of the Illustrious Bar Association of Madrid (ICAM) and its dean, Eugenio Ribón, in the case against the State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, in which ICAM is presented as an accusation. The note denounces that Ribón acted with “unusual speed” in presenting himself as the accuser, with an “unprecedented deployment” of actions against García Ortiz and for having positioned himself “in a legally unnecessary way, in accordance with the defense theses” of Alberto González Amador, boyfriend of Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
They also criticize that Ribón has “exaggerated” and claimed to speak “on behalf of the entire society” and that in his accusation he makes statements that do not apply to him, such as that González Amador has suffered “reputation damage of a social and economic nature” or that the Prosecutor’s Office is “undoubtedly contaminated”, “thus joining” González Amador’s defense strategy to obtain an annulment of the trial than be prosecuted against him for tax fraud.
He also criticizes that ICAM assumes that there is a “Moncloa connection”, meaning that the presidency of the government is involved in the case. Finally, he denounces that despite having appeared as an accusation for the leak of an email, the one of February 2, he maintained a “cry of silence” in the face of the leak of another email, the one of February 12, the one that Miguel Ángel Rodríguez spread to create a hoax on the origin of a possible compliance agreement in the González Amador tax fraud case.
