Russia’s intelligence agency (FSB) said the strikes with Kinzhal hypersonic missiles were carried out against an electronic espionage center near Kiev and an air base hosting F-16 jets in “retaliation for a provocation” that Moscow said was orchestrated by Ukraine’s intelligence service to seize a Russian Mig-31 and direct it to a NATO base. According to the FSB, cited by the Interfax agency, electronic espionage centers in Brovary, Kiev region, and Starokonstantinov airport, Khmelnitsky region, were attacked.
