Lebanon, Hannibal Gaddafi is released after 10 years in prison

Lebanese authorities have released Hannibal Gaddafi, the son of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, after paying bail of 770 thousand euros. He has been held in preventive detention in Beirut for ten years, but his trial has not yet begun. Gaddafi was accused of hiding information about the 1978 disappearance of Musa al Sadr, a Lebanese Shiite leader who was never found again. The release came after the lifting of the travel ban and the reduction of bail, which was initially set at 9 million, thanks to the Libyan government’s intervention in Tripoli. Gaddafi’s lawyers drop their lawsuit against the Lebanese state.
