Vienna, November 11 (Adnkronos) – “At the same time as the birth of the UN, Italy embarked on the path of equipping itself with a new constitution, the Constitution of the Republic of 1948, which was based on values in line with the Charter of San Francisco and the Declaration of Human Rights. In that text the founders of the Italian state, with their foresight, firmly pointed out the way for Italy’s participation in international organizations. On this basis, full adherence to the system of values, The Italian Republic was able to access the UN in 1955, the same year as the Republic of Austria. Since then, Italy, with conviction, has been the protagonist of the campaign to promote universal values, and has hosted important UN structures on its territory.” This was recalled by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, when speaking in Vienna, together with the President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, at the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the UN Convention against transnational organized crime.
“In this regard, allow me to convey – added the Head of State – my sincere thanks to the country welcoming this important UN hub, and to you, Mr. Federal President – and good friend – for being here today to support, together, the same values that have characterized our 70 years of being part of the UN family, in ethical and political terms”.
