Helping people living in a situation of inequality, precariousness and absolute vulnerability constitutes an ambitious and urgent goal for humanity. But, at the current rate of progression, it will take decades to eradicate extreme poverty, according to the World Bank, which estimates that there are 808 million people in this situation across the planet.
To improve the lives of disadvantaged populations, organizations and institutions design and implement real solutions. This is the case of the Fundación MAPFRE which, for over 50 years, has had as its permanent objective the improvement of people’s development and quality of life.
In five decades, Fundación MAPFRE has invested more than 315 million euros and has had a positive impact on the lives of more than 15 million people
Their great challenge was access to basic health services and a balanced diet, but also to quality education. To improve training, they have collaborated with more than 80 social entities promoting global projects in 25 countries, mostly in Latin America. Thanks to these alliances, every year 140,000 minors in vulnerable situations have the opportunity to take back their future. With an investment exceeding 315 million euros, in these five decades it has had a positive impact on the lives of over 15 million people.
International collaborations in response to crises
At Fundación MAPFRE they treat education as an essential resource for social evolution. Its programs, which act as engines of change, are nourished by specific values: respect, responsibility, commitment, protection and care for life, inclusion in the face of diversity and solidarity.
The Foundation acts in harmony and coordination with the educational community, from parents, to teachers and to the students themselves. With an investment of more than 165 million euros, it has impacted the lives of more than 43 million children, young people and teachers in 30 countries.
For five decades, its offer of activities and resources has sought to bring benefits to the educational environment through educational workshops, laboratory visits or open and free access materials, adapted to different stages of development and with innovative methodologies. The projects materialize in objectives such as accident prevention and road safety, the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits or the responsible use of technologies.
At Fundación MAPFRE they believe that the prelude to inclusion is solidarity. They encourage this with their corporate volunteering program, which operates in 28 countries, where they also allocate their own funds for the development of social help projects. through the project Be Solidarity They offer the opportunity for other groups and society in general to join their initiatives with donations and resources that are entirely allocated to small social entities in Spain. Since the inception of this program, more than 8 million euros have been allocated, which has had an impact on the lives of more than 1,378,000 people.
Another economic injection was the Humanitarian Aid Fund, endowed with 150,000 euros annually. In this way they act quickly to provide first emergency aid in the event of disasters. They have already responded to 30 critical situations in Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Philippines, Haiti, Honduras, Jordan, Lebanon, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Turkey and Ukraine. In each case the action was different: from the shipment of water purification plants to the supply of essential materials.

Volunteers play a vital role in providing help. As well as the support of thousands of committed people who participated in the small donation campaigns. More recently, a response to the pandemic of 2020 and 2021, actions to support refugees from the Ukrainian war in 2022 or actions after the dana that flooded Valencia and other regions of Spain in October 2024 have been offered.
More than one million euros was allocated to the latter, the largest budget mobilized by Fundación MAPFRE to respond to a humanitarian catastrophe. The foundation’s various actions and efforts are aimed at improving the lives of those who need it most, to build a more just and dignified future.
