Lisa Müller is taking a new approach to sport after a public retirement and a long dry spell. The wife of football star Thomas Müller owns five of the best horses – and they are under special supervision.
Lisa Müller seems to be on a direct path to the top of the world. When the 30-year-old dressage rider sensationally won the Masters Tour Grand Prix at Germany’s biggest indoor tournament, it looked like a breakthrough. The wife of 2014 world soccer champion Thomas Müller even beat her coach Isabell Werth in Stuttgart six years ago.
This was followed by appointment to the Perspektiv squad and not long after the purchase of D’Avie, twice world champion young horse in his age group. But the stallion, estimated to be worth several million dollars, did not have the expected effect.
The best in the world today is still a long way off for Lisa Müller compared to her greatest success to date in the dressage saddle.
Lisa Müller has the top five horses for the most difficult dressage test
This weekend Lisa Müller will compete again in the Grand Prix at the tournament in Stuttgart. He saddled the ten-year-old stallion Mondrian. One of several promising horses from their stable in Otterfing, Bavaria, south of Munich, where the Müller family runs the Gut Wettlkam stud farm.
“I can really take full advantage of it now,” the 36-year-old told specialist portal “dressursport.kim” in one of his rare interviews. “I have five Grand Prix horses and all of them can do 70 percent or more. That’s very, very good!”
Five horses in the most difficult dressage test for a rider is unusual. What is also special is that he himself trained three of them to Grand Prix level – together with home trainers Götz Brinkmann and Isabell Werth.
Müller on long dry spell: “He was under pressure because everyone was watching”
After a long dry period, the 36 year old player’s condition is now improving. First places in the Bavarian championship in 2024 and 205 as well as two wins in internationally advertised Grand Prix tests with Zonik are part of his success statistics.
“He has a very good horse,” said national trainer Monica Theodorescu: “He can take full advantage of it.” However, it is difficult to assert yourself as one of the best in the world. “It also has a lot to do with experience,” Theodorescu stressed: “It’s a very long road.”
This road now leads back to Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle. On Saturday the Grand Prix was programmed for a rider who is always under special scrutiny due to her famous husband, who is currently playing in Canada.
“He was under pressure because everyone was watching him,” Werth said at the start of his collaboration with Müller: “He couldn’t make a mistake without the whole world talking about him.”
Müller recently withdrew from the public spotlight
Lisa Müller recently withdrew from the public spotlight. In the documentary “Thomas Müller – One Like No Other” he said: “You no longer have a private life. People don’t leave you alone much.”
The dressage rider used to be very active on Instagram, causing a stir with comments about the substitutions made by Bayer’s then coach, Niko Kovac, but recently he took a long break.
A few weeks ago, after a long period of reluctance, he posted a video after his internship with the President of the Bavarian State Parliament, Ilse Aigner. A conversation with the portal “dressursport.kim”, which discussed his top five horses, seemed like the next small step in his return to the public eye.
