Starting Tuesday, ice cream also arrived at the Montecitorio bar, an elegant bar in the Chamber of Deputies frequented by MPs, journalists and officials. Currently only 6 flavors are served, all gluten-free: mango, lemon, salted caramel, hazelnut, pistachio and dark chocolate, also available in a vegan version. Ice cream is only sold in cups: a small one costs 3.50 euros, a large one 4.50 euros.
At buffets, only food is served quickly and on the spot: therefore portions are usually small and cups are considered more practical than cones. At Palazzo Montecitorio you can actually buy ice cream at the employee bar, but only in packages and not handmade.
This initiative started with Fratelli d’Italia deputy Paolo Trancassini, who presented it as a way to increase Italy’s excellence in ice cream, and was approved with the positive vote of the College of Quaestors, a group of 3 deputies who have the task of overseeing the administrative management of the Chamber. This included Trancassini and his colleagues Alessandro Manuel Benvenuto (Lega) and Filippo Scerra (5 Star Movement), who voted against.
