Four police officers from Carpentras Police who uncovered the Mazan rape case in 2020 were awarded on Tuesday 11 November. They received a bronze medal for internal security, said ICI Vaucluse (formerly France Bleu). “Without them, there would be no Pelicot business“, summarizes Emmanuel Desjars, interdepartmental director of the national police in Vaucluse.
It was he who handed bronze level internal security medals to four Carpentras police officers who helped solve the Mazan rape case in September 2020. It was they who decided to further investigate Dominique Pelicot who had just been arrested in a Carpentras supermarket after filming under the skirts of several customers. They then discovered that Gisèle Pelicot had been raped for years at the couple’s home in Mazan.
A medal”to honor them for their early work“, continued Emmanuel Desjars who presented them with decorations on the occasion of the November 11 ceremony.”There is always emotion when hearing this speech“the reaction of one of the respected police officers, Olivier, on the ICI Vaucluse microphone. He participated in the exploitation of the video, then in the custody hearing of Dominique Pelicot.”This story fell on us, we didn’t choose it and we are trying to do the best we can. So, it is always an honor to receive a medal“, he said.
