The giant French army truck market is attracting the attention of heavy-duty truck manufacturers

For military truck manufacturers, this is the deal of the century. The General Directorate of Armaments must appoint, by the end of 2025, the winner of a large-scale tender, launched on July 31, 2024, for the supply of at least 7,000 units. “logistics carrier, 6 ton load, all terrain, protected or unprotected”namely heavy goods vehicles with armored or unarmored cabins.

The first phase, of 3,210 trucks, should be delivered in 2032. If all options are implemented, the order could be increased to 10,000 units. The total market size is estimated at several billion euros. Manufacturer bids were opened on October 17 by the Directorate General of Armaments. The review is ongoing.

Specified in the military programming law 2019-2025, therefore before the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022, as part of the so-called “FTLT” program, for the tactical fleet and ground logistics, this contract aims to replace the old Renault GBC 180 trucks, in service since 1998 and running out of steam, despite several upgrade campaigns.
