Ray Richardson dies, basketball says goodbye to Sugar: he makes Bologna dream

Sugar Ray Richardson has died. The former player is 70 years old. Richardson also left his mark on Italian basketball by wearing a Virtus Bologna uniform in the late 1980s and winning one Cup Winners’ Cup and 2 Italian Cups. Richardson, ESPN reported, was suffering from prostate cancer.

The guard was disqualified from the NBA in 1986 after a third offense involving the use of prohibited substances, including cocaine. Richardson admits addiction problems hampered his career in America. In 8 NBA seasons – with the New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors and New Jersey Nets – he was the best player in steals 3 times.
