Women’s football: Against fearsome opponents Lyon: Wolfsburg’s defeat in the first class

VfL footballers Wolfsburg suffered their first defeat of the current Champions League season against their feared opponents, Olympique Lyon. Coach Stephan Lerch’s team had no chance at 1:3 (0:2) in France and therefore still has six points after three match days.

For Wolfsburg, this was the seventh defeat in a row against their long-term European rivals. Only last season had it Lyon wins in both group matches; there had been, among other things, three recent defeats in the premier class against record champions France.

Two goals from Hegerberg

Ada Hegerberg made it clear in the first half with two goals (25 and 30). The Bundesliga club lucked out with another top-class opportunity from France. Wendie Renard made things clear with a penalty kick in the second half (72′). Wolfsburg’s goal through Lineth Berensteyn came late (80th). Jule Brand is also in Lyon’s starting line-up after he left Wolfsburg in the summer after three years in a VfL shirt.

The Wolfsburg women’s team, which suffered a setback in the league against Eintracht Frankfurt (2:3) last weekend, will now face Manchester United in the next premier class match in a week.
