A previous malfunction a few weeks ago sparked controversy. Electronic bracelets meant to prevent assailants, often ex-partners, from approaching female victims of violence suffered a new malfunction on Tuesday, November 11, the Spanish Ministry of Equality reported.

The ministry said it had activated “victim protection protocol”after detecting a “incident” on a bracelet system that alerts victims if their attacker violates a deletion order. This bug does not affect “emergency services, panic buttons, call receiving and making services and distance alerts via Bluetooth”Who “remains operational at all times”the ministry added, confirming this “victims are warned and protected at all times”.

At the end of September, the first controversy emerged after the publication of the prosecutor’s annual report, which revealed that the anti-reconciliation bracelet experienced technical problems following the migration of data related to a change of supplier. This dysfunction has also created a situation of anxiety among the victims“a large number of temporary dismissals or releases” regarding violations of removal orders, according to this report. After receiving strong criticism from the opposition against the government, the public prosecutor’s office issued a press release admitting this “timely problem”but stated that the issue had been resolved by the end of 2024.
