From Lower Saxony to Hamburg: A terminally ill cancer patient visits his beloved adopted home for the last time. Their children were there too.
With the help of ASB’s wish basket, a hospital patient with serious cancer had her heart’s desire fulfilled. This was explained by the volunteer project Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) Lower Saxony on Instagram. The 80-year-old woman, who is originally from East Germany and lived in Hamburg for many years, can once again visit the places that have shaped her life.
Accompanied by volunteers and their children, the elderly citizen traveled from Lower Saxony to the Hanseatic city. Despite heavy rain, the group visited important places such as the Alster, Elbe and Teufelsbrück. The Elbphilharmonie and the family’s former home are also on the program, according to the article.
This journey had a special emotional meaning for the patient: her husband died suddenly three years ago and her cancer was getting worse.
“Hamburg Full Day” ended with a festive finale at the Hotel Vier Seasons, where the family gathered over cake and champagne before volunteers accompanied the exhausted but happy senior citizens back to the hospital in Lower Saxony.
