One of the faces of the #MeToo movement, accused of sexual harassment by many people but not punished, has resurfaced. American actor Kevin Spacey, 66, will face the British courts again in October 2026, this time as part of civil proceedings, the London High Court announced this Wednesday, November 26.
The facts under fire occurred between 2004 and 2015, when Kevin Spacey was artistic director of the Old Vic theater in the British capital. He “The alleged sexual assault was carried out by the defendant against young men he met while working at the Old Vic theatre, two of whom were young actors”according to court documents consulted by AFP.
Actor, Oscar winner for American Beauty And Usual Suspectsalways proclaims his innocence. His career stalled after various accusations he faced starting in 2017.
The Hollywood star was acquitted in 2023 in England on sexual assault charges brought against him by four men, following a criminal trial that lasted several weeks. Two of them are now suing him civilly. Besides them is a third and new whistleblower, British actor Ruari Cannon, who has waived his right to anonymity.
In a preliminary hearing held this Wednesday before the High Court in London, Judge Christina Lambert provisionally set October 2026 for the hearing of the three complaints. Other hearings will be held occasionally to decide whether they will be handled jointly or separately.
In a documentary broadcast in May 2024 on Channel 4 entitled Spacey UnmaskedRuari Cannon accused Kevin Spacey of touching her inappropriately in public in 2013 in London when she was 21 and the American actor was 53. He applied to the High Court in London in February and also sued the theatre.
The release in 2023 follows a New York court decision in 2022 dismissing a civil complaint filed against Kevin Spacey for sexual touching.
