Another murder of women in the long list that occurred in recent days. A woman in her fifties died this Tuesday evening in Saint-Colomban (Loire-Atlantique), after receiving multiple stab wounds, the Nantes prosecutor’s office said. The former partner of the victim who is the main suspect is still being sought by the police.
The tragedy occurred this Tuesday evening, when the victim, born in 1973, was celebrating his 52nd birthday with several family members near Nantes. But later that evening, his former partner “appeared uninvited” and stabbed him several times, Nantes public prosecutor Antoine Leroy told AFP.
The man still wanted her
Severely injured, the fifty-year-old woman, who was in cardiac-ventilation arrest when help arrived, did not survive her injuries. He died at the scene around 9 p.m., firefighters told AFP. About ten people were present at the scene of the tragedy, according to the Nantes prosecutor’s office.
The suspect, the victim’s former companion, born in 1968, is still being sought by the police. The separated couple has several children together.

The number of marital homicides of women increased by 11% between 2023 and 2024 with 107 women murdered by their partners or ex-partners, i.e. one death recorded every three days. In total, law enforcement recorded 138 deaths due to violence between partners last year, including 31 men, according to an annual national study conducted by the Interior Ministry.
