This Wednesday, November 19 morning, Île-de-France experienced a new road nightmare with almost 400 km of traffic jams accumulating around 08:30, according to the government reference site for Ile-de-France traffic Sytadin. A level described as extraordinary, surpassing the red curve of the usual barometer.
A series of accidents
This situation was caused by a series of accidents that occurred during rush hours on the region’s main roads. The A4, in the province-Paris direction, was the most affected with no less than three accidents recorded between 07:59 and 09:01. The first, reported at 07:59 between Noisy-le-Grand and Villiers-sur-Marne, involved two light vehicles and a motorbike, neutralizing the emergency route.
Then, at 08.11, a new accident occurred involving three light vehicles which caused the closure of one of the three lanes. Finally, at 09.01, between Lognes and Champs-sur-Marne, a collision between a light vehicle and a motorbike again moved the emergency lane.
Other strategic axes have also been paralyzed. On the A6-Paris province, between Viry-Châtillon and Savigny-sur-Orge, an accident involving two light vehicles caused the closure of one lane and an emergency lane from 08:38. The outer stretch of the N104, near Les Ulis, was also disrupted by a crash at 08:37.
The outer section of the N184, near Villiers-Adam, was not spared from an accident which occurred at 9am involving a light vehicle and a motorbike, neutralizing one of the three lanes. Late in the morning, a broken down bus on the inside of the A86 completed the picture.
This 400 km long traffic jam is part of a series of extraordinary episodes that Île-de-France has experienced since the beginning of November. On November 4, Sytadin had recorded a cumulative decline of 455 km. On 17 November, two days before this episode, the total reached 450 km with a peak exceeding 460 km.
