Acea, the first Italian water operator and the second in Europe with 10 million Italians served and 10 million people abroad, has signed an agreement with Mowah, a Saudi water and energy infrastructure company to participate in the tender for revamping and operational management of wastewater treatment plants in Saudi Arabia. The agreement was signed by Pierfrancesco Latini, Chief Risk Management, Sustainability & International Officer of Acea and Faisal Al Rayes, CEO of Mowah with the aim of jointly participating in a long-term project part of the tender for the National Water Company, the Saudi state company that manages water and wastewater treatment services in the country. Founded in 2008 and wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), NWC supplies water, collects and treats wastewater and manages service rates, operating in accordance with commercial principles and international standards.

Pierfrancesco Latini, Chief Risk, Sustainability & International Officer emphasized the first agreement with Mowah, a leading company in the development and management of water and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. Acea is expanding its international presence and is already present in Latin America, with a consolidated presence in Peru, Honduras and the Dominican Republic, where integrated water services serve more than 10 million people. In Peru, this company carries out operational management activities with the collection, processing and supply of drinking water systems as well as maintenance of water and sewer networks in Lima. In the Dominican Republic, the Group manages the technical-commercial aspects of water services, while in Honduras, the Group manages water services in San Pedro Sula under concession. Acea also participates in the control room of the Mattei Plan for the development of water infrastructure on the African continent.

The forum was attended by more than 900 companies, including around 500 Italian companies and more than 450 Saudi companies in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani and Saudi Minister of Investment, Khalid A. Al-Falih. Saudi Arabia is a priority country in Italy’s Export Action Plan and the Business Forum takes place at a historic moment in which the Kingdom is undergoing a major economic transformation, guided by the ‘Vision 2030’ development program.
