The US House of Representatives has approved a bill forcing the Justice Department to reveal all files in the case Epsteinonce the required two-thirds of the vote is reached. Now the ball turns to the Senate.
Epstein storm, Summers leaves public office
Meanwhile, Hurricane Epstein again caused extraordinary victims. After the fall of Prince Andrew, losing his royal titles and privileges, the former US Treasury Secretary, Larry Summerdecided to step aside, overwhelmed by the spread of embarrassing new emails. “I am deeply ashamed of my actions and aware of the suffering they have caused,” Summers explained, “taking full responsibility for the misguided decision to continue communicating with Epstein.” “I will put aside any public commitments as part of my broader efforts to rebuild trust and repair relationships with those closest to me,” the former minister announced, noting that he would continue to fulfill his academic obligations. This means maintaining a professorship at the University Harvard where he was president from 2001 to 2006 and he organized two courses for undergraduates and one for doctoral students. A controversial choice, the latter, which caused discontent at top universities.
Summers’s was the first show to air in the US because of the scandal Epsteindespite the fact that it is estimated that the victims (often minors) abused by the financier and his network of rich and powerful friends number over a thousand.
He was a prominent figure: chief economist of the World Bank, secretary of the Treasury during the economic boom with Bill Clinton, chancellor of Harvard, director of the National Economic Council with Barack Obama. Dangerous ties between Summers and Epstein have emerged in the past: from the financier’s donations to Harvard to the office assigned to Epstein for personal use at the same university, from the economist’s request to support the poetry foundation headed by his wife Elisa New to four flights on the Lolita Express.
But new emails show that the former Treasury Secretary continued to be in contact with Epstein until the day before his arrest, including asking him for advice on how to start a sexual relationship with one of his “protégés.” In one of his changes, Trump said he supported legislation to reveal all of Epstein’s files but that he already had all the authority to do so. Although he continued to define it as a “hoax” in which he had “nothing to hide”, the story remained a thrill for him.
If this approval is now also received from the Senate, then the matter will go straight to Trump’s desk. The measure would force the Justice Department to make public all documents about Epstein within 30 days of the policy’s enactment. However, these regulations provide exceptions in some cases, to protect the victim’s privacy or not jeopardize other ongoing investigations. As Trump ordered Epstein’s ties to Clinton, Summers and other Democratic representatives.
