Ada Colau says she does not intend to run again in the elections | News from Catalonia

Former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau says she has no intention of running again in any type of election as her party, Barcelona En Comú, will soon start the primary process. In the statements a The avant-gardeColau declared: “I have no intention of running in the primaries or in the next elections; neither municipal, nor state, nor anything else.”

Recently Barcelona en Comú revised its code of ethics, limiting the duration of its public positions to twelve years. Previously, two terms were mentioned, which could be extended to three.

Colau, who spent almost ten years in the City Council – eight as mayor and almost two in opposition – could therefore choose to remain another two years in the City Council or even more, by virtue of the exceptions provided for in the new text.

The party will hold primaries, presumably at the beginning of 2027, to choose an electoral tandem in which there must be at least one woman.

The person who has already publicly expressed his desire to participate in these primaries is Roberto Enríquez Higueras, known as Bob Pop, and another name that has been heard is that of the first secretary of the Council of Congresses, Gerardo Pisarello, who was part of the municipal government of Barcelona between 2015 and 2019.
