It’s Christmas Brandenburg. In addition to the classic wine and craft stands, several markets and events have special focuses planned. Five places at a glance.
Winter market in Slavic village
The Slavic Village in Brandenburg an der Havel brings a Christmas atmosphere to a medieval village on December 6 and 7. Craftsmen and merchants demonstrate ancient arts and techniques. You can eat and drink at the bar and toaster. If you want, you can also make your own candles or archery. Saturday night fire shows, bonfires and theater performances are some of the highlights.
Chocolate market
The chocolate market invites you to the Old Market in Potsdam from 5 to 21 December. The focus is Chocolate – for example in the form of hot chocolate drinks or sweet samples. There are other interesting places available for visitors in the surroundings: right next to the market, for example, there is the Barberini Museum, the Church of St. Nicholas, and Potsdam City Palace, seat of the state parliament.
Winter circus
The winter circus at the Johanniskirche in Brandenburg an der Havel was held for the second time this year. That’s what’s behind it circus “Creative”. From December 5 to 7, “art, music and magic” will be on offer there, according to organizers. In addition to creative performances, the program also includes workshops, musical performances and small exhibitions.
Spreewald: boat trips, traditions and good luck charms
Away from the big cities, the Christmas Spreewald takes place at the Lehde Open Air Museum on the first and second weekends of Advent. There is also a Christmas market not far from the Großer Spreewaldhafen in Lübbenau. In between, barges take visitors from market to market.
In Lehde, visitors can expect “Christmas like the old days,” as announced by organizers. “At the historic farm at the Lehde Open Air Museum, we bring to life the stories, traditions and customs surrounding the Christmas season in Lusatia,” he said. For example, what is called Bescherkind, which is said to bring good luck and blessings in the coming year.
Polish Christmas Market
The Polish Christmas Market will be held for the 20th time on the second weekend of Advent at the train stables of the Brandenburg Museum in Potsdam. Polish artists and craftsmen offer their handmade works of art. If you’re hungry, you can look forward to typical sweet and savory Polish dishes. A meeting place is being created in a historic domed hall. There are craft workshops for children.
