After the crash of a Turkish military plane in the border area between Georgia and Azerbaijan, the Turkish government imposed a temporary flight ban on C-130 transport aircraft. The planes will return to service after passing thorough technical tests and safety checks, Türkiye’s Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

Accident in the border area between Georgia and Azerbaijan

The Turkish army’s C-130 transport plane was en route from Azerbaijan to Türkiye on Tuesday when it crashed in the border area with Georgia. According to Ankara, the entire crew of 20 people died. Investigators took the plane’s black boxes to the Turkish capital for examination.

The plane disappeared from radar

According to the Georgian Interior Ministry, the accident occurred about five kilometers from the border with Azerbaijan. According to Georgian air traffic controllers, the transport plane disappeared from radar shortly after entering Georgian airspace.

Video recorded by eyewitnesses showed the plane trailing a cloud of white smoke, spinning in the air and spinning several times before crashing to the ground.
