After aviation tax reduction from July 2026: Union wants cheaper and faster ticket prices | policy

Are plane ticket prices dropping even faster now?

At a black-red coalition summit, the government decided to reduce aviation taxes from July next year. This is taking too long for the European Union and it wants flight prices to fall faster than planned before July 2026.

The deputy head of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group for transport, Stephan Stracke, told BILD am Sonntag:

“The best would be a price reduction before the tax cut on 1 July 2026. Then next summer holidays will be cheaper. This will not only be a good signal for families who rely on summer holidays, but will also increase air traffic. I hope Lufthansa in particular will review its flight offers and cancel the canceled connections.”

And according to transportation expert Stracke, airlines should also pass on future price advantages to customers and not retain them. And there is a clear message for Lufthansa in particular:

“If taxes and fees for airlines fall, passengers should also benefit from it. Ticket prices should fall. I now expect the same from airlines, especially Lufthansa,” said traffic expert Stracke.

Passengers also benefit from it

The tax reduction will ease the burden on airlines by around 350 million euros. Air traffic tax must be paid by airlines for all passengers flying from Germany. Airlines can pass on taxes to customers. Hopefully ALL passengers will now truly benefit from this tax reduction.
