At the center of the dispute is the edition of the ‘Panorama’ programme. Shortly before the 2024 presidential election – which Trump won against Kamala Harris – the BBC re-edited parts of his January 6 2021 speech.
His legal team accused the BBC of creating the impression through the montage that Trump was directly calling for violence. They asked for one Excuse mewithdrawal of shipment and compensation – otherwise a lawsuit will be filed.
After the scandal was broadcast, the BBC experienced an earthquake: broadcasting boss Tim Davie and news director Deborah Turness resigned

The program caused shockwaves at the BBC: broadcasting boss Tim Davie and news director Deborah Turness resigned after the allegations became known. The state broadcaster later officially acknowledged the error and wrote a regretful apology to the US President.
However, the BBC refused to provide compensation. Although the controversial program is no longer broadcast, the broadcaster refused to make any payment. There is also “no basis” for the defamation suit.
