Rome, November 11 (Salut Adnkronos) – Nicola Silvestris is the new national secretary of the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (Aiom). The election took place at the 27th national congress of scientific societies which took place in Rome, with the participation of more than 3,000 specialists from all over Italy. He will join Massimo di Maio (president), Rossana Berardi (president-elect) and Nicla La Verde (treasurer) on the new board. Nicola Silvestris, 56 years old, was born in Bisceglie and is full professor of medical oncology at the University of Messina and director of medical oncology at the IRCCS John Paul II Cancer Institute in Bari.
“It is a matter of pride and honor to be the national secretary of Aiom for the second two years – said Silvestris – It is important to respond to the various needs of doctors and patients, maintaining constant dialogue with the institutions. Aiom has an excellent internal organization, my task is to work to further improve it, together with President Di Maio, the entire Board and the Board of Directors. I thank all members for their trust and appreciation and I am ready to listen to all requests from members of our scientific society. I will then be my task is to pass it on to the new national board. Finally, thank you especially to Francesco Perrone for the extraordinary work carried out during his mandate as president of Aiom with great commitment and heart”.
At the 27th Aiom National Congress in Rome, an entire new board of directors was appointed, serving until 2027 and consisting of: Antonella Brunello, Chiara Cremolini, Carmen Criscitiello, Alessandra Fabi, Luigi Formisano, Lorena Incorvaia, Marcello Tiseo, Dario Trapani. Francesco Perrone is the new president of the Aiom Foundation.
