New severe weather warning in Friuli Venezia Giulia, following yesterday’s events, which led the Region to declare a state of emergency and call for national mobilization. Civil Protection has issued an orange level warning of severe weather conditions with the possibility of critical hydrogeological and hydraulic conditions. Yesterday the incessant rain caused landslides in the Cormons area of Gorizia and left one person dead and one person missing after the collapse of three buildings. Several residents were then forced to take refuge on the roofs of their houses due to the flooding of the Torre River.
Rain arrives in Central and South
Disturbances originating in the Atlantic, after affecting northern Italy and Tuscany, continue the transit falls in the Central-South regionbringing scattered rainfall, including thunderstorms, which will now be more intense and abundant in the downstream regions of Lazio, Molise and the southern Tyrrhenian sector of the Peninsula.
The warning predicts that, from early today, rain or thunderstorms will occur in southern Lazio, Molise and Campania, then spread to Basilicata and Calabria, especially in the related Tyrrhenian sector. This phenomenon will be accompanied by heavy rain, frequent electrical activity and strong wind gusts. Yellow warning for the entire region of Calabria, Molise and the Friuli Venezia Giulia sector, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Lazio, Abruzzo, Puglia, Campania, Basilicata and Sicily.
Particularly in Tuscany, scattered rainfall is possible today in the northern part of the region, in the provinces of Massa-Carrara, Lucca, Pistoia, Prato and the upper province of Pisa, even with strong local thunderstorms. In the Apennines, above 1,200 meters, light snowfall is possible.
Friuli regional council member Riccardi: “There is progress, but the situation is still difficult”
The “weather warning” until 12 noon on Tuesday 18 November “is orange for the Isonzo, Lower Friuli and Central Friuli regions and yellow for Upper Friuli” said regional councilor responsible for Civil Protection Riccardo Riccardi. “We are following the situation minute by minute and we are on the ground with the people and means of the Civil Protection – so Riccardi – working together with the Fire Brigade, the Municipality, the police forces and the volunteer forces for the rescue operations and to alleviate as much as possible the suffering of the population in the most affected areas namely in Brazzano di Cormons and Versa”.
