The new feature in “This is an important first step in ensuring the integrity of the global public square. We plan to offer more ways for users to verify the authenticity of the content they see on X,” one of the platform’s administrators, Nikita Bier, announced in a publication.
The feature appeared on Friday, but was no longer available after several tens of minutes. Some bugs have been discovered by American users. “The account creation country was incorrect for a small number of old accounts, due to changes in IP address ranges over time,” explained Nikita Bier at the time.
From now on, the tool is available to all users, even if small bugs will be fixed “on Tuesday” the manager promises. Concretely, once in the profile, simply create it on the date of account creation to access location information.
“This data may not be accurate”
But be warned: “the country or region where the account is located may be affected by recent travel or temporary moves. This data may not be accurate and may change periodically,” which we can read by clicking on the small “i” to the right of the country. On other accounts, the message is different. It says “Country or region may not be accurate.”
“One of our partners indicated that these accounts may be connected to a proxy (VPN, for example), which may have an impact on the countries or regions displayed on their profile,” he explained. “This data may not be accurate. Some Internet service providers may automatically use proxies without user intervention.
In her announcement, Nikita Bier explained that “for those living in countries where freedom of expression is punished, we have included a privacy option to only show your region.”
Trump supporters are not located in the United States
This update reveals that, in the United States, some accounts supporting Donald Trump’s MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement will not be created in North America. User “ULTRAMAGA TRUMP 2028” joined X by connecting from Nigeria. The “MAGA Warrior” account was created in August 2025 in “South Asia”.
