Alpine skiing: Frenchman Paco Rassat wins Gurgl slalom after fiery 2nd run

France has won the 17th slalom event at the Alpine Ski World Cup. This Saturday, Paco Rassat won the slalom in Gurgl (Austria) after an impressive second run. He was ahead of Belgium’s Armand Marchand and Norway’s Atle Lie McGrath, who were 8 tenths ahead after the first round.

This first round was not perfect for the Frenchman. Only 14th with a time of 52″97, it was hard to imagine him fighting for the podium. However, he had an epic 2nd round, with a best time achieved at 51″58, which allowed him to beat Marchand and McGrath by 7 and 9 hundredths respectively.

This was Paco Rassat’s first World Cup win. The son of the director of the Aillons ski school, on the Bauges Massif, the 27-year-old skier has never done better than 9th in Wengen in January 2025. Last year, he finished 23rd in the general slalom rankings. At the last World Championships in Saalbach (Austria), he was forced to retire.

Behind the Frenchman, three other Tricolors competed in this 2nd round of the Gurgl slalom. Victor Muffat-Jeandet finished 7th in the final, Clément Noël and Steven Amiez finished 12th and 15th.
