Kreislermania
Fritz Kreisler works by Amanda Favier (violin) and Elodie Soulard (accordion).
Like he’s famous Liebesleid (“Broken Heart”), there are many miniatures created by Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) to serve as encores for violinists in performances. Bringing together the virtuoso’s captivating works together with his own arrangements of pages from various eras (from Beethoven to Albeniz, via Boccherini, Dvorak or Couperin) can produce a relatively uniform program in a captivating stage repertoire. Not so with this double original disc, with its thematic grouping of the songs and with the accompaniment provided on accordion (sometimes with classical, sometimes popular accents). The result is a new album that beguiles both the quality of Elodie Soulard’s transcriptions and the chamber performances of a duo celebrating its tenth anniversary. Elodie Soulard’s accordion is like a small orchestra in permanent metamorphosis. Bewitching in the yard (Gypsy antics, Prelude and allegro in Paganini style) that is not accessible to all players, Amanda Favier’s violin is as great as the violin that inspired Kreisler.
