Annette Frier talks about attacks on the film industry. When he looks back on his career, he is disillusioned – also by his own behavior.
“Groping, especially under the influence of alcohol, is in principle socially acceptable” – with these clear words, Cologne actress and comedian Annette Frier condemned the abuse of power by men in the film industry in previous years.
In an interview with “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”, the 51-year-old reported that he had overcome his own memories for his new series “Frier und Fünfzig”. He was disappointed by “how little objection was raised to such an attack, even from me.”
Solidarity among women “wasn’t high on the list of important things” at the time, Frier said. Now he is “very worried” that the mood could change again after the success of the MeToo movement. “Just take the equality requirements that have been fought for over years of hard work and have now been abolished again in an instant at America’s largest corporations,” he said. “For us, the trend is going in the same direction.”
Nevertheless, in his “unwavering naivety” he firmly believes that backward social models like US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin or Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban “will not win.”
