“Anti-Semitic developments”: Berlin’s CDU asks the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution to review the left wing

Berlin’s CDU sees “anti-Semitic and anti-Israel positions” on the left. The state executive council formulated clear expectations for Berlin’s security authorities.

The CDU’s Berlin state executive has asked the Office for the Protection of the Constitution to target leftist groups for anti-Semitic tendencies. “We expect the Berlin Office for the Protection of the Constitution to carefully examine anti-Semitic developments in the Left Party and its environs and – if necessary – to supervise individual branches or entire state associations,” said the resolution at a closed meeting of the CDU state executive committee in Magdeburg.

It said that recent developments among the left show “that anti-Semitic and anti-Israel positions are structurally embedded in some parts of the party.” The CDU referred, among other things, to the call for a left-wing party conference on Saturday. However, the drugs were not treated there but were withdrawn.

Compromise, not confrontation

Instead, the Left passed a compromise proposal with a large majority at a meeting in Lichtenberg. This reflects the concerns of the Palestinian community and the fears of the Jewish people. The resolution calls for making visible the suffering of both sides and “showing solidarity with all people affected by violence, anti-Semitism and racism.”

The report continued: “The protection and visibility of Jewish, Muslim, and Palestinian lives is important to us. No one should be threatened or slandered in Berlin because of their origins, religion, or attitudes – regardless of whether someone wears a kippah, speaks Hebrew, wears a keffiyeh, or is an Arab Berliner.”

Several other firm motions called for more support for the Palestinian side. One of the demands, among other things, is that the term “genocide” be used consistently in public regarding the Israeli government’s actions in the Gaza Strip. Others signaled support for the boycott movement against Israel.

Trade union faction leader Jens Spahn recently sharply criticized the Left in Berlin. “Berlin’s Left Party is fed by a rough mixture of the old SED and the new Hamas,” the CDU politician told “Tagesspiegel”. “He had unclear ties to Islamic terrorists, and hatred of Jews was openly displayed in youth organizations.” That is a real problem. “Islamism is already growing in several areas of Berlin.”
