The atmosphere was so jubilant, the fans could hardly believe their luck. Eberechi Eze has just scored a hat-trick to give Arsenal a 4-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby. Gary looked at his friend Shuwhan and shouted, “What the hell?” and threw his half-full mug of beer into the cheering and singing crowd at the Gunners Pub.

Mikel Arteta celebrates

Football pitch from November 20 2025: Coach Mikel Arteta has assembled a squad at Arsenal with incredible depth and a defense that allows almost no goals to be conceded. The reward: first place in the Premier League, four wins without conceding a goal in the Champions League.

FC Bayern is a feared opponent

After that there was no stopping. Hundreds of fans at Arsenal’s most famous fan bar repeatedly sang vicious songs about their arch rivals Tottenham. Preparations for the top Champions League match against Bayern are very good.

“We still have a score to settle with Bayern and a lot of things to make up for,” said Shuwhan Savory. He was at the stadium in 2017 when Bayern won 5-1 in London. “The balls were flying around our ears,” Shuwhan recalled. He sat right behind the gate.

It was a brutal defeat.

Luis Diaz and Aleksandar Pavlovic celebrated the goal to make the score 0-1.

FC Bayern is slowly becoming scary. Against reigning champions PSG, the Munich team won their 16th competitive match of the season with a spirited performance.

A decade on the season ticket waiting list

Shuwhan and Gary have known each other since school. It has been almost 30 years since Shuwhan became an Arsenal fan through Gary. There was never another club for him. Gary came to the Gunners through his older brother. “You don’t choose, your family decides which team you support.”

They will return to the Gunners Club on Wednesday evening. Gary goes to the stadium four to five times per season. Getting tickets is not easy and most importantly, not cheap. Gary has been on the season ticket waiting list for ten years.

The match against Bayern Munich is almost as important as the derby against Tottenham.

Bayern fans are also welcome at Arsenal pubs

At the bar, Phil has just gotten a new beer from bartender Harry. Phil is pretty sure Arsenal will beat Bayern too. “We have the best bench in the world,” said Phil. No matter who enters, the quality of the players is extraordinarily high. With Declan Rice, Arsenal has the best defensive midfielder in the world.

And Bayern have to overcome our defense first.

Harry looked at him the same way at the bar. He was looking forward to the game and hoped some Bavarians would come to the pub. “I’ve never had a problem with German fans here,” he said. “The atmosphere in the pub is amazing,” says Marco. He’s Austrian, but still a Bayern fan. He visited London with two friends. “We will win Wednesday’s game 3-1,” he hoped. Fan merchandise seller David replied by saying he was very confident the Gunners would win.

Praise to Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta

Christopher Kohnert was born in Scotland and has been an Arsenal fan for as long as he can remember. His father is German, his mother is Scottish, and when it comes to football, Christopher prefers the English version. “English football is faster and more physical,” he said. “Maybe that’s why players like Florian Wirtz are having difficulty in the Premier League.” In the Bundesliga it’s more about combinations and tactics, in England it’s more about passion.

Karl Lennart celebrates in the match against FC Brugge together with Aleksandar Pavlović.

12th win in the 12th game of the season: Bayern alone hold the European record after beating Bruges 4-0. Lennart Karl was also unique, becoming the youngest German goalscorer in the Champions League since his 1-0 win.

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is Kohnert’s idol. “We love Arteta. We want the team to win for him too.” The Spanish player played for Arsenal for five years until the end of his career. He has been coach of the Gunners since 2019.

We never wanted another coach again.

Learning from rugby: A strong bench is key for Arsenal

Arsenal have had a winning mentality for several years now. But the consistency is lost. For Kohnert, the secret also lies in the banks. Arteta was inspired by rugby, he said. “Banks can change the game.” This is an important tactical measure in rugby, Kohnert said. And the quality of the squad has never been as good as it is now.

Something very different was important for Shuwhan: a win against Bayern’s outstanding English striker. “We hate Harry Kane,” Shuwhan said. It doesn’t matter if Kane becomes captain of the England national team. At Arsenal’s London stadium they saw one thing above all else in Harry Kane: the face of his greatest rival, neighboring club Tottenham and feared opponents Bayern Munich.
