Assembly: Braun-Pivet asked to stop publishing photos of empty benches so as not to “stigmatize” absent deputies

National Assembly President Yaël Braun-Pivet asked deputies to stop publishing photos of their political opponents’ seats on the hemicycle when they are empty, so as not to “stigmatize”.

“We have all noted, in recent months, the increasing distribution of photographs taken for political purposes, aimed in particular at stigmatizing absence from certain benches,” wrote Yaël Braun-Pivet in a letter written last week and consulted on Wednesday by AFP. “Such behavior is a source of tension in a double cycle and is very detrimental to the image of the institution,” continued the President of the Macronis-leaning Assembly.

Various accusations in recent weeks

He also ordered the country’s 577 elected representatives to “refrain” from “unwittingly photographing members of parliament or persons present in the stands with the aim of using these images publicly, in particular on social networks”.

Two weeks ago, controversy arose after deputy RN Julien Odoul published a photo of X schoolgirl wearing a veil on the hemicycle stand at the Palais Bourbon.

During recent parliamentary debates, many MPs published photos of other depopulated groups, to accuse them of not taking their duties seriously.
