Death and fear from a huge fire that destroyed several residential buildings at Wang Fuk Court, in the northern Tai Po district Hong Kong. The victims also included firefighters. The fire quickly spread from thick bamboo scaffolding surrounding at least three buildings, then spread to other areas of the complex. Images broadcast live showed huge plumes of smoke and flames almost completely covering the building under renovation, while emergency teams had declared alert level five, the highest. Several residents were trapped inside the apartment and at least two people, a man and a woman, were rushed to hospital unconscious, with serious burns. Authorities closed parts of nearby highways and urged residents in the area to “stay home, close doors and windows and remain calm”.

BUDGET

The number of people who died in the fire that hit several buildings in the housing complex will rise to 12 people. The South China Morning Post reported this, citing its sources. Among the dead were eight women, three men and a firefighter.
