FRANKFURT (GERMANY) (ITALPRESS) – Atalanta beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 and secured the Champions League play-offs. A good first match for Raffaele Palladino, the new coach of Atalanta who on his debut in Europe’s top competition achieved a convincing success that eliminated the ups and downs of the league. On Sunday the Nerazzurri will host Fiorentina, the coach’s past, and on December 9 there will be a match against Chelsea, again at the New Balance Arena.
Palladino launched a heavy attack with Scamacca in the middle supported by De Ketelaere and Lookman. The hosts responded with a 4-2-3-1 attacking formation, entrusting the management of the game to Mario Gotze: Toppmoller’s team pressed the gas pedal from the first moment, in the first quarter of an hour Germany established three clear chances. Most important was Chaibi, a moving penalty intercepted by Carnesecchi. The Bergamo team struggled in the first half, but in the first two accelerations they almost took the lead: within seconds Lookman and Scamacca’s efforts hit the same post.
In the second half Burkardt scared the Goddess, but from a quarter of an hour on the Nerazzurri looked wild, scoring three goals in five minutes. Lookman, within a quarter of an hour, finished at the far post from a fine cross from De Ketelaere, two minutes later Ederson – served by the Nigerian forward – made it 2-0 with a touch underneath. The third goal was created in the 20th minute, De Ketelaere was again able to return the ball which ended up on the crossbar after Scamacca’s pass. In the final, the Bergamo players continued to attack, but Krstovic was unable to find his poker. Palladino’s team is getting closer to the play-off round, but with tenth position, Dea is dreaming big and even hopes to go straight to the round of 16.
