TURIN (ITALPRESS) – Jannik Sinner conceded an encore, beating Alexander Zverev and securing a place in the semifinals of the ATP Finals taking place at the Inalpi Arena in Turin with the certainty of finishing the Borg group with a lead. The world No. 2, after a success in his debut against Felix Auger-Aliassime, established himself as the German’s bête noire (fifth consecutive success in head-to-head matches, the fourth this season after the finals in Melbourne and Vienna and the Masters 1000 semi-final in Paris): 6-4 6-3 after one hour and 37 minutes of play. “It was a very difficult match, I served very well in important points – Sinner’s analysis in a heated interview – Alexander and I know each other very well, we both changed tactics a bit today. He played very well from the baseline. There were not many exchanges, the level was not the same as seen last night with Musetti. I’m very happy, let’s see how the next match goes.” And regarding the variety of his game, the Italian added: “Obviously there is a lot of hard work behind it, in our sport confidence is important, it depends on how you come to the event. I have been playing well recently. We are trying to go as far as possible and play in the right way.” The 24-year-old from South Tyrol will return to the field on Friday for the final match of the group stage, against Ben Shelton: the American, who was beaten today by Felix Auger-Aliassime, is effectively out (the Canadian will compete with Zverev for another place in the semi-finals) but Sinner cannot afford to put a foot wrong considering he is going the distance with Alcaraz, ranked 1st in the rankings.
