Why is Pokrovsk so important?
For the Kremlin, the capture of Pokrovsk was also a political victory. Analyst George Barros of the Institute for the Study of War told CNN that “from an operational point of view, the city has lost some of its logistical value, but from a political and informational point of view, it is important: Putin has repeatedly cited it as a stated goal.” Pokrovsk will be the largest city Moscow conquered since Bakhmut, in 2023, and Avdiivka in February 2024.
