Felix Auger-Aliassime was the final semifinalist in ATP Finals in Turin. The Canadian beat Alexander Zverev in straight sets, with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in two hours and six minutes. Auger-Aliassime joins Jannik Sinner, Alex De Minaur and Carlos Alcaraz in the penultimate round of the tournament, where he will challenge the world number one tomorrow night at 20.30.
The first set flowed on serve and the difference was due to change of serve, with exchanges reduced to a minimum. The score became 5-4 for Auger-Aliassime who then closed the game and was partial on the fourth set point. Zverev felt pinched and desperate. In the second set, Auger-Aliassime immediately took the lead by holding his serve and Zverev was at risk of losing it especially in the sixth game, when he then closed the game on a useful fourth chance. The score reached 6-6 and a tie-break was needed to determine the final semifinalist. The Canadian’s win ended a disappointing season for Zverev and gave himself another big night at the Inalpi Arena.
In the other semifinal tomorrow, Sinner challenges De Minaur at 2 p.m.
