From 2026, in Australia, millions of families will be able to use electricity for free for three hours a day. This is a public initiative, called “Solar Sharer”, designed to make better use of solar energy generated during the day, in an effort to reduce pressure on the national power grid at night. The policy will start in three states – New South Wales, southeast Queensland and South Australia – where electricity markets have already been liberalized. If the results are positive, the program will be expanded nationwide by 2027.
