Austria: Adhesive sketches phased out by December 2026 – “No risk of counterfeiting”

In Austria, adhesive vignettes for road use will be abolished next year. Starting December 1, 2026, according to the National Council resolution, there will only be a digital version.

“There is no gluing, no shipping costs, no risk of counterfeiting,” but three to five million euros in costs will be saved, said ÖVP transport spokesman Joachim Schnabel, confirming the move.

The sketches can not only be purchased online, but also at kiosks, gas stations and gas stations, he said. Toll fees can be paid for one day, ten days, two months, or a whole year. Prices for 2026 range between 9.60 euros and 106.80 euros.

By 2024, state highway operator Asfinag said it collected about 600 million euros in sketch fees, plus 230 million euros in route tolls and 1.6 billion euros in truck tolls. By 2024, 1.5 billion euros will flow for the renewal and modernization of Austria’s motorways and motorways.
