Gina‑Lisa Lohfink suffers after botched buttocks procedure in Türkiye. Now the model hopes to be saved by Swiss specialists.
Gina‑Lisa Lohfink is struggling with the consequences of an unsuccessful cosmetic procedure: She has been in severe pain since her butt surgery in Turkey in 2023. Now the model who became known in 2008 through “Germany’s Next Top Model” has high hopes for an emergency operation in Switzerland – and this time she is relying on specialists.
Gina-Lisa Lohfink’s disastrous butt surgery
In the summer of 2023, Lohfink underwent the so-called “Brazilian Butt Lift” (BBL) in Türkiye. The fat is sucked out and injected into the buttocks – a procedure that is considered quite risky. Shortly after the operation, his condition worsened dramatically: he suffered from a high fever of up to 40 degrees, was bedridden for a week and said he “almost died”.
Taking painkillers, he returned to Germany, where his family doctor administered an IV drip. But the symptoms persisted: Lohfink continued to report pain in his buttocks.
Why is BBL so dangerous?
Experts warn: BBL is one of the most dangerous cosmetic surgeries ever. Fat injected into tissue can enter the blood vessels, forming a so-called fat embolism and causing life-threatening consequences. According to a dermatologist, the death rate is about 1 in 3,000.
Gina-Lisa Lohfink’s rescue plan: Switzerland, not Turkey
Because she was suspicious of clinics and medical procedures at that time, Gina-Lisa Lohfink, who had to surrender her driver’s license, did not want to return to Türkiye this time. Instead, he plans to have another operation in Switzerland in early 2026. An MRI scan will be scheduled before the procedure to assess the current situation.
Although he is afraid, he is also confident: “I trust the doctors in Switzerland,” he told “Bild”. And he added: “I don’t want what happened to me in Türkiye to happen to anyone.”
