Two weeks after being elected deputy mayor of Bad Salzuflen (Lippe district), AfD politician Sabine Reinknecht will be ousted again. All factions in the city council except the AfD have submitted a joint motion to opt out of Reinknecht. The city council is scheduled to vote on Wednesday.
Reinknecht was unexpectedly elected on 5 November. He received 16 votes, even though the AfD only has 13 seats in the council. Other factions have actually agreed beforehand about deputy mayors from the CDU, SPD and Green Party. Instead of a Green Party candidate, there was Reinknecht. It is not known where the dissenting vote for them came from.
The election annulment request, which does not require any reason according to city regulations, was submitted by the CDU, SPD, Green Party, USD, Left and FDP. A joint press release from these groups stated: “Our shared goal is to support democratic institutions, create stable framework conditions for political work and sustainably secure the reputation of our city.”
Apart from that, we are working together to ensure there are only two deputy mayors in the future.
