The Zugspitze is very popular – this is reflected not only in the crowds on the way to the top, but also in the souvenirs that guests leave at the top: countless stickers “decorate” the summit cross and are now heavily coated in gold. That’s why the cross has now been dismantled for several weeks and flown to the valley. Blacksmith Andrea Würzinger, whose father built the cross in 1993, now cares for its beauty.
By the start of the ski season on November 28 – the Zugspitzbahn and the blacksmith’s hope – the work will be finished and the cross will return to its place. Meanwhile, all visitors can do is take a selfie in front of the second wind- and weather-resistant cross at the mountain station and – yes, stick a sticker too.
