A general strike has been launched in Belgium to protest the government’s austerity measures, which also include increasing the retirement age. This protest was proclaimed by the three largest trade unions in the country who organized demonstrations for three consecutive days: today workers in the public transport sector will go on strike, and the railway company plans to operate one in three trains. Tomorrow public services in schools, kindergartens and hospitals will not be guaranteed, and the day after tomorrow airport staff will join in protest, so much so that Brussels-Zaventem and Charleroi airports, the country’s two main airports, have canceled all flights.
